Comments: | Great analysis. Especially in your last speech. You hit on pretty much everything I needed in order to give you the decision. The only think left fore is the actual "ethical" obligation. I personally agree we should not exploit an alien ecosystem. Others may disagree of it means living 1000 years. So why do we have an ethical/moral obligation specifically to protect something that would benefit us so greatly? What is the inherent value in keeping that system untouched? Best of luck!! | Great debate! I really enjoyed how clear your rebuttal analysis was in terms of framing the main issues of the debate. You provided a very clear and consistent perspective. Great job! |
The decision is for the Proposition: Zainab Gilani
Reason for Decision:
Ultimately I agree completely with the last speech. I read over the current treaty and feel it is inadequate and very human centered. I think the current treaty would absolutely allow us to exploit alien ecosystems if it benefits "mankind." I appreciate the analysis of how western civilizations often exploit African countries, stating they too will benefit, when in reality we are exploiting them for personal gain. I think if we found microbes that make us last 1000 years we would turn their ecosystem into a factors, and that is morally wrong and we should preserve and pretect foreign exosystems before it gets to that.
