Comments: Good case... i would have liked to see your evidence for your first contention, but you didn't provide any citations. You've clearly worked hard to get this case together, but I have to take some startling statements with a grain of salt when I'm not able to examine the evidence myself.

Also, solving prison rape by abolishing prisons is a little like solving the tardiness epidemic by abolishing schools. As I tell the other Ryan, some more development of this type argument probably would have won him the ballot.

Good presentation overall, though the gentleman skulking in the background of your first speech was a little distracting.

You've got some good ideas here, and you come close to getting the ballot. You need to do a little more work to convince me that the lower crime rate is because of the higher incarceration rate. You point out that the dangers of abolishing prison entirely outweigh the harms of the abuses that are going on now. However, you need to provide more evidence and/or logic to support that position.

Overall, an articulate and well spoken advocacy.

The decision is for the Proposition: Ryan Jaffe

    Reason for Decision:

You both agree that the crime rate has gone down, just not on the cause for this decrease. Opp says that it's because of prisons but doesn't warrant this statement. Prop provides some evidence that even as crime has decreased, incarceration rates have increased.

For me the debate came down to the prop's second contention. He was able to answer the opp's impact turn that prison labor hurts the economy. The Opp argument about prison labor reducing recidivism was a good one, but as it was a new argument presented in a rebuttal speech, I didn't give it weight in the round.

Ultimately the prop does a better job warranting the claims that he makes, and convinces me to vote for him.

Thanks Ryan and Ryan for your participation and courtesy in this round.
